I have 3 different modulars all put together to make 1 instrument:
System-100M, System-100, and SteinerParker. Each has it's own unique
strengths, very different sound, etc. I have 3 types of VCO, 3 types of
filter, etc. By blending the 3 different systems I have a very versatile
system. These systems each have their own cabinet so I have my 3 systems

Differing form-factors can be problematic.
CABLES:
1/8" (is my preffered for size/space)
1/4 (cables are easy to find, most compatible with all other gear)
Banana (stacking ability, no need for "multis")
If your systems/modules each use different cable types it is a pain
to always need adaptor cables.
MODULE SIZE:
If you already have a Moog Cabinet, it would be nice to be able to
add a Serge module into the same cabinet; It's not possible. I'm
drawn to consider purchasing a PAiA and Blacet combination as a
possible next addition because they can easily be put into one
PAiA cabinet together.
POWER & WIRING:
Common power requirements is also a consideration. If I wanted to
place a cool MOTM filter into a Moog System, it would be easiest if it
had the same pwer requirements and the same wiring harness to easily
run off the same power supply.
I do understand why each company comes up with it's own design, there are
often strong arguments for their decisions. But it's too bad that there
isn't a little bit more standardization.
