---Slightly off-topic advisory---

A recently manufactured Ween cd lacked a fifteen second Muhammad Ali speech
that was originally part of the song ("Powder Blue"). Discussion of this led
me to:

I'm looking for any published books out there that give a comprehensive
history of sampling. Something that covers not the technology, but rather
stuff like:

- the evolution of laws related to it (how many seconds before it's
copyright infringement, etc.)
- discussion of pivotal court cases (De La Soul vs. Turtles; Negativeland
and U2; Biz Markie
- humorous commentary by James Brown and George Clinton
- maybe some rambling philosophising about the effect this post-modern tool
has had on the music industry, on pop culture, on art
- the history of sampler manufacture
- the democratizing egalitarian power of yak baks

I'm aware of some publication about the Negativeland/U2 fracas; any other
good ones out there?
