>hey all you lot that grabbed the ae mp3s from babzani's www page (who in
>turn grabbed them from hotline...)

actually, to be completly honest, i got about 1/3 of them from Hotline. the
others he owns. just to speak up to support my friend Kiya. its not like he
is some horrible "warez pir8 phreak" and everything he owns has no original
cover art. (meaning cd-r's) he loves the music, just like I do, just like we
all do. the very essence of the music is spoiled when arguments about
copyright violations are started, and then carried on and on. i have no
sides here- i totally understand copyright laws and what they were created
for. thats why, no lie, blank tapes and cd-r's and such have a built-in tax
when you purchase them, becuase the national copyright agency, whatever its
called, knows that people are going to be copying music to them.
not that this in any way allows for mass copying of music. if kiya was
making mp3's of music readily avaliable, and thus ripping the fine company
WARP off, even i would be upset with him. but, even though this is illigeal,
i believe that he has some justification of putting the mp3s on the web.
what is important to remember is that, for the most part, people are honest,
and enjoy music. they aren't looking to make a buck and rip someone off.
kiya is a very good friend of mine, and i support him in this matter. who of
us has no MP3's? i would think noone. yeah, i have some mp3's, like the rest
of us, but if I saw a copy of AFX's Hangable Autobulb 2 anywhere, it would
be off the shelf and in my hands, and the mp3's would cease to have any
meaning and value to me. mp3's do not replace the real thing. noone in their
right mind enjoys using their computer to play music for any period of time.
it sucks. especially if, like me, you have a 486 and can only play mp3s at
half resolution/mono sound.
what needs to be realized by everyone is that, no matter what, WARP is
going to stay in business, along with Rephlex, Skam, Clear, and all the
others. mp3's do not put companies out of business. they do not hurt the
artist, but merely allow it to have a wider audience. would i know who Cevin
Key was without the opportunity to hear his work on MP3's? no. and now i own
a few cd's of him. the company made some cash.
i am not everyone. some people are bad. some people are "warez pir8
phreaks" looking to cheat someone somewhere. but thats not the people that
matter. the people that matter are the fans, and thats who we should be.
listen to the music, buy it when you can, dont worry if you cant. noone is
going out of business because you have autechre's PIOBmx2 on MP3. but if you
see the 7", you better damn well purchase it.

ps- this was meant to be a small message, but it grew in my mind. do not
reply to the list, please. no more wasted bandwidth about this thing. just
think about the continued existence of The Hotline IDM server, or the AFX
MP3 web site. that's the kind of place WARP should really be upset about.

my $.02.
kiya's the brown boy from Cali.
white man shane lives where the sides are round and it's hi in the middle.
the music is the same.
