My last posts about the cr8000 didn't excite much
interest, but for you closet fans out there. . .
Using the information posted on hyperreal about
trigger points, I rewired my CR8000 to allow the
internal sequencer to access hi conga, rimshot, and
clav. I sacrificed the kick drum and toms. So while
this renders the cr8000 less useful as a standalone
drum machine, in conjunction with a 606, allows for
more analogue percussive sounds. On the whole, I feel
the modification was worth it. It only took about 15
minutes, and is easily reversed. The rim shot sound
is particularly good. The clav is a bit out of
control, like the percussionist is on cocaine or
something. With three tuned congas, the 8000 is
closer to the 808. I still on the fence about the
quality of the conga sounds. I sure wish I could
retune them, but don't know how to.
