This is the debut long-player from Black Faction, on Imprint.
Previously released the Foreign Terrain LP-1.

Black Faction is the harder side of Imprint. Fusing breaks and rhythms with
harsh tonality and brutal reality.

The LP opens with a monologue from Japan's infamous Cult Aum Shinrikyo, the
apocalyptic Buddhist sect suspected in the 1995 subway nerve gas murders in
Tokyo. The monologue is taken from their promotional Manga-style video and
gives Nostradamus his check (in Japanese).
This edgy opener flows into a retrospective homage to the Shah & Empress of
Iran and their not-so- pleasant exodus from Iran in 1979. (This to be
released on a split 12" with Foreign Terrain later on in the year). Black
Faction's ridims are hard-hitting yet funky enough for head nodding.
At times, the music leads us through the streets of Beirut, with Middle
Eastern rhythms punctuated by muezzin cries offering their devotions to
Allah.
At other times the sounds are closer to home. The streets of contemporary
Berlin are viewed in the tracks, Les Salons de Musique du Tarmac and
Cirolni.
The tracks Isfahan, Spirit Jive and Apocryphal all follow the route of
bass-heavy flowing rhythm tracks. Play "Isfahan" loud on the dancefloor and
watch for the reaction, the serious sub-bass will dictate the way to sway.
Oblique Black is a re-working of Oblique Eccentricity from Foreign Terrain
Lp-1 comes with deep, textural, and serious speaker-damaging bass-tones. It
opens with a Swedish dialogue about possibilities and also features the
voice of Christine talking about planetary statistics.[[[[ Andy's French
girlfriend.. (Swedish because of Black Factions part-time nationality being
Swedish.]]]]
Free Faith Org. is another ridim tune but not so hard this time. The piece
is an ironic take on the American preacher circuit, layered with spoken
words of faith in Jesus, and also the prophet Mohammed. Dissident and
Dissident live are straight rhythm pieces, the studio version is complex and
twisting whereas the "live" version is distorted and strengthened for
dancefloor consumption.
Gauzian Eye, is a Tribute to Bryn Jones aka Muslimgauze, Musician and friend
who
passed away Jan 15th. Sadly missed, and a suitable closer for the LP, or is
it… keep the CD playing! Available: August 99!
