Digital synthesis generally takes less space than analog. Roland sells a
complete Sound Canvas in a PCMCIA Card (about 2" x 3-1/2" x 1/8"), much
smaller than a Boss pedal. Modulated pulse width waveforms are Very
possible in digital.

However, I don't know if the SYB-3 is digital or analog, I haven't seen the
inside of one or looked at service manual yet.

No... What is the motivation for the product? Synth bass sounds are
popular, even necessary for certain music. The SYB-3 will give bass players
access to synth sounds. Of course Roland is aware that other people will
find other uses, some predictable, maybe some not so predicatable.

These are my own opinions, I do not represent Roland in public forums.
